All systems upgrade June 29/30
Event Date: June 29/30, 2020
Event Location: San Jose, Chicago, Ashburn, Amsterdam, London, Tokyo, Sydney, Toronto etc.
Impact:
All instances, both hosted and remotely managed, including Cluster and Power hosted in all subnets will be affected by this maintenance.
Scope of work:
Multi-stage upgrades across our network are scheduled before the June 30 deadline for Debian Jessie EOL to keep all systems on supported Debian OS versions. Apart from weekly system upgrades, Percona will replace MariaDB, Debian Stretch will replace Jessie, on some machines Buster will replace Stretch, kernel upgrades will trigger machine reboot.
We do run Percona for years on all Clusters, and it’s amazingly stable and keeps MySQL compatibility, unlike MariaDB 10.3+
Side effects and recommendations:
1. Aegir tasks queue and sites cron will be paused and enabled from time to time only.
2. We kindly ask everyone to postpone any site maintenance until July 1st, 2020.
3. All daily system maintenance tasks, including heavy and long running backups will be paused.
Expected downtime:
~10-30 min downtime expected 2-3 times during the maintenance window. However, if it will be determined that extra steps or firmware upgrades or even partial hardware replacements are required, it may extend the effective downtime beyond the 30 minutes.
We are doing everything in our power to complete this maintenance during night hours, local to each facility time zone, but in some cases we may have to run some tasks also during early morning and late evening hours, always trying to avoid office hours in respective time zones, unless absolutely unavoidable.
Thank you so much for your support while we work to make these improvements.
